McDaniels/Brady 2.0

In a move that doesn't shock most Bronco fans, the team acquired quarterback Brady Quinn from the Cleveland Browns. Quinn's NFL career has been rocky (no pun), to say the least. After three seasons in Cleveland, he has 10 touchdown passes, 9 interceptions, and a 52% completion percentage in 14 games. Some people say those numbers reflect the fact that he's not a long term answer at the position. Some say he's never gotten a fair chance to run the show. And of course, there are others that attribute his failures to playing in that shithole in Ohio. At the very least, he is an interesting acquisition for the Broncos, who are searching for a franchise quarterback after last year's divorce with the Diabetic Demon. While his tools (PAUSE!) may not be as impressive as you'd like, having a known quarterback guy like Josh McDaniels to work with him is appealing. Josh has been a fan of his since his days at Notre Dame - and even tried to pry Quinn in a trade last season.

It remains to be seen how this works out. I don't mind the trade because Denver really gave up nothing. Their entire offseason has been really solid. I like Josh's philosophy of bringing in a deep pool of solid talent. As opposed to pouring all your money into a big time free agent who will most likely not be worth it.

Here's to hoping we keep B-Marsh...

Life As A Bronco Fan In The Post-Elway Era Is Depressing

I feel like I've seen this before. It's probably because I have. The final day of the season. The Broncos need a win to keep themselves in a playoff scenario. And not only do they come up short, they straight up lay an egg. Yesterday's game against the Chiefs proved to be no different as the Broncos were creamed (yeah, it was so bad that I said "creamed") by the Kansas City Chiefs 44-24. AT HOME.

What went wrong? There's a laundry list. It started earlier in the week when the rift between coach Josh McDaniels and star wide receiver Brandon Marshall once again reared its ugly head, resulting in the team's best player being benched. It continued with the benching of starting tight end Tony Scheffler, apparently because of his attitude toward McDaniels. These are the same two players that were at odds with the coach at the beginning of the season. The picture on the field wasn't anymore pretty. 44 points given up. 259 rushing yards from KC running back Jamaal Charles. Three interceptions thrown by Kyle Orton, two returned for touchdowns. Missed tackles. Dropped passes. An all too familiar scene for Bronco fans on the last day of the season.

For the second year in a row, the Broncos were humiliated by an AFC West rival in the final game of the season to end their playoff hopes. Three out of the last four years, they've lost on the final day of the season to miss the playoffs. The difference this year is that they wouldn't have made it had they won, but you'd still like to see the fighting spirit in your team. Especially in a game against an inferior opponent at home. Yesterday, I didn't even know how to feel about the game. I just know that I've been a Bronco fan since I was in the crib. And I deserve more than this. All of us deserve more than this. I invest too much of myself into this team for them to continuously embarrass themselves like this.

It must get better. We don't accept this in Denver. I thought the years where we routinely got humiliated in the Super Bowl were bad. This is next level.

Broncos, B-Marsh Talking Extension

Those pajama pants are dope as fuck. Smells like a fashion trend to me.

Anyways, according to ESPN, the Broncos are now exploring the possibility of giving disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Marshall his desired contract extension. No word on if he's overly thrilled about the possibility of staying in Denver, but he's been able to suppress his attitude in recent days enough to get the brass thinking about throwing dollars his way. I'd love to joke about this, but the reality is that I need encouraging news out of Denver. Because, for all of the shit we've done this off season, we've got great players. A standout offensive line. A pair of great, play making wide receivers. A potential stud running back. Our defense needs a lot of work, but we've put veterans in a position to maybe at least change the culture of it. Ironically, depending on how this Marshall situation turns out and how the team responds to Mickey D's...we can be a quarterback away. Or maybe I've just overly optimistic because of this Marshall news. That's probably it.

B-Marsh Gets Suspended

The Broncos suspended receiver Brandon (great name) Marshall indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team today. After a day in which he phoned in practice and conducted interviews to reiterate his displeasure with the organization, Denver took the action that they felt was best for the team. Now ever since this asshole McDaniels took over, I've done nothing but blame him for everything that's gone wrong. But this - this is a primadonna receiver issue. I'm not even upset at the fact that the kid wants a new contract. I'm upset at the fact that he continues to do shit off the field that makes signing him to a big contract such gamble. Plus, his bitch ass antics are only decreasing his trade value. Making it less likely that the Broncos will actually move his punk ass before the season starts. I gotta say, as a sports fan, I've experienced two really fucked up offseasons. The Summer of Shaq. And whatever this bullshit is happening to Denver this year. Its completely unfair as a fan to have to put up with such disarray in an organization. To patiently wait for and support players while they're developing - only to see another team reap the benefits. Fuck that. Nevertheless, I hope he finds his way to another team soon. I'm tired of dealing with his bullshit. And hopefully, with his departure, we can start moving forward again. Which we haven't done in a very long time.

Ouch. Although, I have to say he fit like a glove in Atlanta.

You're Not Fooling Anybody, Zo.

Alright, we get it Zo. You're a good ol' fun-loving country boy who plays the game for fun! You're just a big kid out there having fun! Like backyard football! GET A NEW FUCKING HAT. That shit you wore at your press conference was fucking repulsive. I didn't feel more "connected to you" because you wore a dirty piece of shit hat like these analysts would have you believe. Sweat stains are gross. They stink, they're dirty, and they make you itch. Take your corny ass to LIDS and get a fuckin decent hat. Its one thing when a celebrity goes out of their way to let you know that they're rich. It's another when they go out of their way to let you know that they're "just one of the guys." Get a hat, faggot!

Vick Lands On His Feet

How does one report this story? A feel good story? A celebration? An injustice? No matter how you report it, Michael Vick getting his second chance by signing two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles is undoubtedly the story of the day. And as expected, the feelings regarding his return to the gridiron have been mixed. Some are happy to see him bounce back. Some aren't a fan of him as a person, but like the news as fans of the game. Some are just downright disappointed. I fall into the category of people who are happy to see him bounce back. Don't get me wrong; I know the severity of what he did. I'm what they'd call a "dog lover" myself. My dog is my world. Damn near a child to me. I'd do unimaginable things to anybody who did harm to him. Saying that, I'd like to believe that if I ever did anything wrong, people would be willing to give me a second shot at life as well. I know I'm not flawless (I know, hard to believe, but I'm not). I'm not above a careless mistake. Or even a mistake that I'm fully aware of. I don't believe anybody is. Michael did his time. He'll serve whatever suspension Goodell has in place for him - and it'll be time for the detractors to let it go.

Furthermore, whether people like it or not, Michael Vick is one of the most looked up to athletes in sports. Kids love him. What an opportunity for MV7 to really step into that role. As a guy that children should actually be proud to look up to. And hopefully in the process, they discover Tony Dungy and look up to him too.
